Good Morning …Calc Carb

The cool sand and warm air was on my face this morning as I enjoyed a morning walk on the beach with my dog Lucy.  There were so many clam shells - some whole, some broken, I couldn’t help but want to save the intact clams from the seagulls that like to break them open with their beaks.  But alas….there were too many to save plus I should probably let the natural process occur and not interfere.

In my initial endeavor to save the clams I came across an empty but particularly pretty shell, and I started thinking about calc carb, the homeopathic remedy derived from the middle layer of oyster shells. This remedy has a rich history in homeopathy, dating back to its founder, Samuel Hahnemann.

Hahnemann first introduced Calcarea carbonica (calc carb) as a homeopathic remedy in the early 19th century. He prepared it from the middle layer of oyster shells, believing it captured the essence of calcium carbonate in its most potent form,  with a wide range of applications across various physical and mental symptoms.

Indications for Calc carb:

·        Weakness and fatigue, particularly after exertion.

·        Coldness: tendency to feel cold and chilly, especially in the extremities.

·        Slow development in children (both mentally and physically)

·        Bone and joint issues; like arthritis and slow bone mending

·        Reflux of stomach acid, bloating

·        Sweaty head in children

·        Children with recurring colds and stuffy ears

·        Anxiousness

Calc carb is known as one of the foundational cell salts discovered later by Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schüssler. Schüssler theorized that these mineral salts were essential for cellular function and overall health. In his system of biochemic medicine, calc carb is believed to play a crucial role in bone formation and cellular metabolism.

Maybe there's a metaphor there about people that are soft, sensitive and vulnerable needing a strong outer shell around them to feel protected.

The wind began to pick up and blow out the waves for the surfers telling me it was time to get back to work…but I have to say that I love seeing the connections of the natural substance and the keynotes to it’s homeopathic uses. There's an undeniable poetry in seeing these shells as a source of both physical and emotional protection and nourishment; from Hahnemann's time to the present day, it's a reminder of how the natural world has long inspired human attempts to understand and improve health.

All the best~ Je
